Quest Diagnostics Breach Affects 34,000 Individuals

Quest Diagnostics, a Madison, New Jersey-based medical laboratory services company, announced a data breach affecting 34,000 individuals. The breach occurred November 26, according to Quest Diagnostic’s December 12 statement.

The breach occurred when an unauthorized third-party accessed the MyQuest by Care360® application, a mobile app that allows patients to share and store electronic health records. The unauthorized third-party was able to access protected health information stored by the app, including:

  • Dates of birth
  • Lab results
  • Names
  • Telephone numbers

Financial information and Social Security numbers were not affected by the breach.
