Provider Perspectives on Patient Safety: Join the Discussion

The independent news organization ProPublica has been investigating patient safety through a series of feature articles and social media offerings. The ProPublica Patient Harm Community page on Facebook is very active and currently has more than 1,300 members. Last week, ProPublica launched a discussion for providers, which is hosted on a new online platform called Branch. The discussion is public and moderated by ProPublica reporters, initiated through a series of questions:

  • Do medical professionals really believe that one in four patients suffer some type of harm?
  • Who or what do they think is responsible for the persistent problem?
  • What’s the typical process at hospitals after a patient suffers harm?
  • And what’s it like when providers are involved in an incident where a patient is harmed?

If you are a provider and want to join the discussion, send email to blair.hickman@propublica.org with a brief note about what you do and why you’d like to participate. If you have a Twitter account, join by clicking on “Ask to join” on the discussion page.

In addition to the discussion on Branch, ProPublica invites providers, administrators, and others other healthcare workers willing to help reporters with stories about patient safety to complete a questionnaire.
