PDC-St. John Expands its Securline Bar Code Blood Band
PDC-St. John, the global leader in healthcare identification solutions, announced the extension of its Securline® Hybrid Style Bar Code Blood Band. The blood recipient ID wristband system provides automated patient identification for blood transfusion, specimen collection, and tracking to improve patient safety and workflow efficiencies in hospitals and blood banks. With the addition of six new Blood Band product lines, PDC-St. John now offers the widest selection of blood bank ID solutions in the healthcare marketplace.
The patented, Securline® Hybrid Style Bar Code Blood Band is dual-purpose to accommodate both laboratory information system (LIS) labels and handwritten patient information. Larger healthcare organizations with multiple labs and facilities can standardize and consolidate to a single blood band, regardless of using an LIS system, or in the case of an emergency or electrical outage, a handwritten system. Securline® meets The Joint Commission’s National Patient Safety Goal for blood transfusions, NPSG.01.03.01, Elements of Performance (EP), for a one-person verification process (versus two-person verification). It also meets requirements of HIPAA for the protection of patient privacy, and the AHA to reduce the risk of lost or transferred data.
The six new product lines – which vary by format, size, and function – were designed to serve as a drop-in replacement for any current printer or system already in place at hospitals, blood banks, and laboratories. The Securline® blood bands fit both adult and pediatric patients and feature matching alphanumeric bar code labels (128 bar code symbology) on the wristband and draw tube tail that can be applied to additional draw tubes, patient charts, transfusion requisitions, and as a secondary label on IV blood bags. New Securline® styles have a larger font size for the unique alphanumeric code on the wristband and matching labels, and are reattachable in the event the Blood Band needs to be removed and reapplied to the patient for surgery or other procedures.
