Noblis Awarded Department of Veterans Affairs Contract to Provide RASMAS

RASMAS, the web-based recall management service, is being used by National Center for Patient Safety.

Fall Church, VA, January 26, 2010 — Noblis, a nonprofit science, technology, and strategy organization, has been awarded a new contract by the Department of Veterans Affairs, National Center for Patient Safety (NCPS), to utilize RASMAS, the leading web-based recall management service.

Noblis was awarded a contract, award number VA251-P-0611, with a value of $473,295. The solicitation asked for “accurate and timely” product recall information through a web-based service that is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Pulling an unsafe product off the shelf and returning it to a supplier is one important way to safeguard the life or health of a patient. Located within NCPS, the Veterans Health Administration’s (VHA’s) Product Recall Office is tasked to manage recalls of all medical devices and products initiated by manufacturers or the FDA that are applicable to VHA. Recalls include, not only those issued by the FDA, but can come from other external sources, such as RASMAS, or manufacturer field notifications.

Established in 2004, RASMAS helps hospitals track recalled and defective supplies. RASMAS delivers timely and actionable healthcare product recalls, comprehensive workflow capabilities, and access to a growing online community of healthcare professionals. Many leading hospitals utilize the RASMAS web-based service to drive patient safety best practices, manage costs, and reduce exposure to product recall liability throughout the enterprise.

“We are very pleased and excited to expand our relationship with Department of Veterans Affairs and the National Center for Patient Safety,” said Cathy Veum, RASMAS, senior manager. “The National Center for Patient Safety, whose goal is to ensure the nationwide reduction and prevention of inadvertent harm to patients as a result of their care, is concerned with the host of products that can affect patient safety within a healthcare facility. With its proven timeliness, accuracy, and breadth across multiple domains, I am confident that RASMAS will meet their needs.”
