First Databank Releases FDB AlertSpace Alert Management Solution
First Databank (FDB), the leading provider of clinical drug knowledge that improves medication-related decisions and patient outcomes, has announced that FDB AlertSpace, a web-based solution for drug knowledge alert management in CPOE systems, will be made available to Siemens Soarian Clinicals customers and Siemens Pharmacy in-house computing option (ICO) users.
Customizing drug knowledge in electronic health record systems is often performed in an effort to address the widespread industry problem of alert fatigue in health IT systems. Since its introduction in early 2012, hundreds of hospitals as well as numerous long term care facilities have licensed AlertSpace. The solution enables Siemens users to customize medication dosing, drug-drug interactions and duplicate therapy drug alerts and provides a “starter set” of high priority and low priority drug-drug interactions recommended by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC).
Unique “crowd sourcing” tools also available within AlertSpace allow users to view aggregated, anonymized data on alert customizations made by all AlertSpace users, providing a starting point for focusing customization efforts. Users are also actively communicating and collaborating online about customizations within their organization via AlertSpace.
“We are extremely excited to offer AlertSpace to our Siemens customers who share many of the industry-wide challenges in managing alert fatigue in their institutions,” said Virginia Halsey, product management director-AlertSpace, FDB. “In just a few short years, we are gratified by the widespread industry acceptance this unique solution has achieved, demonstrating that alert fatigue can be managed when clinicians are given easy-to-use customization tools that work seamlessly with their health IT systems.”
