Costs of Care Essay Contest
An organization called Costs of Care is holding its third annual essay contest to draw attention to the financial impact of medical decision-making on individual patients. Costs of Care describes itself as “a social venture that helps doctors understand how the decisions they make impact what patients pay for care.” As part of that effort, the Costs of Care Essay Contest solicits stories that illustrate how “cost-awareness leads to high value care.” Costs of Care is doubling the number of prizes this year, with a total of four $1000 prizes going to two providers and two patients.
The Costs of Care contest is judged by distinguished experts, who this year include:
- Pauline Chen, surgeon and New York Times columnist
- Jeffrey Drazen, Editor-in-Chief, New England Journal of Medicine
- Donna Shalala, former United States Secretary of Health and Human Services
- Ezekiel Emanuel, ethicist and former White House healthcare advisor
In addition to the $1000 prize, winning essays will be published on the Costs of Care blog. Click here, here, here, and here to read last year’s winning essays.
