Wireless Mobile Computing Workstation for Medication Management
Artromick International, Inc., a developer of medication management solutions for hospitals, has announced an initiative to introduce a new mobile computing workstation that features uncompromised security and organization for medication administration at the point-of-care. The new Initi Mobile Computing MedServer line meets the growing need for mobile computing and wireless data management integrated with innovative medication security and control.
"The Initi Mobile Computing MedServer melds the features of mobile computing workstations, or COWs, with the security and organization of medication carts," stated J.M. Romick, CEO of Artromick International. "With Initi, hospitals can enhance patient care and improve patient safety by combining point-of-care wireless data management with unparalleled medication storage and security. This product streamlines nurse workflow and improves the medication administration process to reduce errors. Until now, mobile computing and medication administration were commonly distinct processes. Initi brings them together in a process-friendly workstation."
The compact 18"-wide footprint makes it easy to fit the Initi Mobile Computing MedServer into patient rooms and to the point-of-care. Importantly, the product provides the features essential for enhanced medication control, including keyless access with automatic relocking. A powerful Pentium M all-in-one computing system offers a 17" interface and is available in either standard or touch-screen models. "Ease-of-use and maneuverability is the key to any mobile computing workstation," stated Tim Friar, vice president of product development. The Initi Mobile Computing MedServer offers unparalleled features in this regard, with an expansive work surface, configurable storage drawers, and an electronic PowerLift system that permits effortless height adjustment at the touch of a button. And the power conditioning system ensures extended battery run-times through a DC power supply that promotes a higher level of safety." Friar adds that the Initi Mobile Computing MedServer can bridge the organization and security gap between a floor-based medication dispensing unit and the patient's bedside. "Nursing workflow is greatly streamlined in these situations by organizing the patient's medications from the dispensing cabinet in to the Initi MedServer. There is no need to run back and forth between the medication dispensing cabinet and the patient's room for every administration event. This functional blending of a mobile computing workstation and a medication cart provides all the organization, security and control nursing professionals have been asking for in their mobile computing carts."
The integration of health information system applications including eMAR, CPOE, and other clinical documentation software is easily accommodated on the Initi Mobile Computing MedServer. The extended cycle battery system and Windows XP operating system ensure high-performance computing and reliable power management. In conjunction with these systems, ancillary peripheral devices such as bar code scanners can also be added on the Initi Mobile Computing MedServer to offer a comprehensive mobile technology and medication management solution.

Duplex Drug Delivery System Provides IV Safety Through Advanced Technology
The Duplex Drug Delivery System is an innovative, award-winning system designed to simplify intravenous antibiotic delivery to patients. Duplex minimizes the potential for medication errors, decreases the pharmacy labor component of IV antibiotic delivery and reduces drug waste. Consisting of a pre-filled, non-polyvinyl chloride (PVC), DEHP-free and latex-free IV bag, this drug delivery system contains proper doses of drug and diluent in different compartments separated by a quick release seal.
The caregiver simply squeezes and shakes the bag to mix the drug and diluent just prior to administration. Because the Duplex container is pre-filled with accurate doses of drug and diluent, the diluent cannot be administered without the drug. The system is also equipped with an HIBC barcode that references the final admixture to automate patient charting, track inventory, facilitate reimbursement tracking and minimize possible contamination and medication errors.
CefTRIaxONE for Injection and Dextrose Injection is now available in the Duplex System. Its innovative design helps clinicians comply with Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and USP <797> Guidelines that specify medicines should be dispensed in their "most ready-to-use form."
B. Braun Medical Inc. has built an unmatched store of knowledge and expertise in delivering innovative healthcare products, medical devices and programs that enhance both patient and health-professional safety. Excellent Surfaces for All Surgical Positions and Pressure Management
The Alto Surface by Allen Medical Systems is designed to offer superior pressure management in all surgical positions. Engineered, multi-layered and fully contoured, this surface allows bony prominences, or "landing gear," to be protected in the Pressure Reducing Zones while other parts of the body are supported and cradled. This support system decreases the high pressure that bony prominences usually experience. The foot section is constructed with calf support and special soft zone for heels. The Anti-Shear Cover protects patients' skin.
Our Astrus Surface has a triple foam composite construction that protects patients three ways. A top layer of conforming foam molds to your patients' anatomy. The pressure displacement foam middle layer transfers pressure off the bony prominences, and the closed cell foam bottom layer prevents bottoming out. The Anti-Shear Cover protects patients' skin.

Non-Magnetic, Smart Infusion Pump Designed for Fluid Delivery in MR Environment
IRadimed Corporation announces that the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted 510(k) clearance for its MRidium MRI Infusion Pump, the first non-magnetic smart infusion system designed for the magnetic resonance (MR) environment, enabling patients to receive intravenous medications safely and continuously during the course of a scanning procedure. MRidium MRI Infusion Pump is now available in the U.S and limited world-wide markets.
The MRidium MRI Infusion pump addresses a critical need for patients on continuous infusion therapy, whose diagnosis and treatment increasingly rely on the high-resolution images provided by MR scans. Patients frequently can wait days for an MR scan, until they are stable enough to temporarily suspend their medications. If suspension is not an option, a patient may be removed from the medication, risking infection, patient safety, or increased discomfort. Many times patients remain connected to the hospitals non-MR compatible infusion pump outside the scanner room by attaching anywhere from 15 to 30 feet of extension tubing. All of these methods affect patient safety, cost, and can interfere with the MR scan causing blurred images.

The MRidium Pump has been designed for quick and easy transfer from hospitals current Infusion pumps utilizing a unique patent-pending design called the MRidium MRI Bypass Infusion Set, which allows customers to leur lock onto their current IV needle free sets without removing or disconnecting the IV line, reducing the risk of infection from disconnecting tubing with other technologies.
The MRidium pump, with its modular design will have the ability to function as a true dual channel infusion pump, along with future planned modules and a remote display feature which will allow users to control the technology from outside the MR environment. This exciting technology includes a built-in dose rate calculator, bolus delivery, upgradeable software technology, up to 12-hour battery life, free-flow protection, and a tracking system for logging over 5000 data input key strokes. The MRidium MRI Infusion Pump is truly a smart choice for the MR fluid delivery environment.
