Clarian Transplant at Indiana University Hospital Uses Medication Management Website to Enhance Patient Care

MyMedSchedule.com® organizes prescriptions, increases patient understanding; nurses teach patients how to benefit from free web site.

Indianapolis, IN, July 28, 2008 — MedActionPlan.com, a healthcare education company, announced today the endorsement of its free web-based program for managing prescriptions online by the In-Patient Transplant Unit at Clarian Transplant. MyMedSchedule.com allows medical professionals and consumers to create, print and document medication schedules for their patients and themselves.

"Our hospital's transplant unit relies on MedActionPlan.com for all new transplant patients. Our transplant coordinators, in-patient nurses and clinical pharmacist all use it," said Mary Jo Burton, the Manager of Clinical Operations for Clarian Transplant at Indiana University Hospital. "For every new transplant patient, our nurses create a list of medications using MyMedSchedule, to organize their prescriptions. The nurses then show the patients how to use the system so they can update and organize their medications at home. This is important to all patients and particularly critical after a transplant, as these patients have to start taking a regimen of medications they aren't used to," she explained.

"For those patients who are unfamiliar with the internet or don't have access, our nurses will revise their MyMedSchedule profile on our system at each visit and send them home with an updated printout to reference and carry in their wallets in case of emergency," she added.

A free service, MyMedSchedule.com enables patients, doctors, nurses and pharmacy staff to access, store, update, manage and track all of a patient's medications in English or Spanish. Redundant or outdated prescriptions are easily identified and can be immediately omitted from the list. Users simply click on medications and supplements to add them to their list. They can then print their schedule displaying colored images of their prescriptions, to reinforce the look of each pill, and also print wallet-sized and large-type charts. Weekly checklists help people keep track of whether they have taken all their medications.

MyMedSchedule.com also allows patients to schedule refill reminders and map nearby pharmacies. Future plans include links to on-line pharmacies and doctors. All personal health information secured on the site is protected by SSL encryption.

"We are thrilled by this endorsement. Clarian Transplant is well known for its clinical excellence, research developments, and commitment to cultivating innovative treatments so that each patient receives an exceptional quality of care," explained founder Tim Peters, president of MedActionPlan.com LLC. "The integration of our program into their patient care approach speaks to the value of MyMedSchedule as a patient education resource."
