AllMed Announces Web-Based External Peer Review Solution for Hospitals

PeerPoint Medical Review Portal streamlines external peer review of physician performance, allowing hospitals and ASCs to improve quality, enhance patient safety and satisfaction.

Portland, Oregon, June 7, 2011—AllMed Healthcare Management, an innovator in the development of web-based medical review workflow software, announced the launch of its online external peer review services for hospitals and ASCs through PeerPoint©. Effective immediately, hospitals, ASCs and others can send, track and receive their physician case reviews online, enabling them to further enhance quality of care with greater efficiency and at lower cost.

AllMed has deployed its external peer review services onto the PeerPoint platform, enabling all services to be performed securely through the portal.  AllMed’s external peer review services allowing hospitals and ASCs to perform in-depth evaluation of sentinel events, credentialing or re-credentialing, privileging or re-privileging, proctoring and ongoing measuring and monitoring of physician performance.

“The launch of our external peer review services on PeerPoint is a milestone for AllMed as well as for its hospital customers,” said Andrew Rowe, company CEO, who – with Chris Senz, vice president of clinical operations – outlined the new offering recently in a webinar. “It streamlines our service and makes it especially easy and cost effective to access external peer review services. Equally important, it gives hospitals a service that is simple to deploy and use, and one that is robust and secure. Also unique is the ease with which it integrates with any hospital’s internal processes and systems.”

Rowe said that now that its service for providers is available on the PeerPoint platform, it reduces the need to pull and copy paper-based medical records, and over time, it will allow hospitals to aggregate external peer review performance data and use it to feed their performance improvement efforts. “This solution will help improve how hospitals evaluate physician performance and achieve continuous improvement in patient safety and quality of care.”

It’s a simple process to submit online review requests, which include all information related to a single case or a multi-case project.  Estimates are generated and approved online through an integrated work order approval process. PeerPoint’s Dashboard then becomes the primary means of managing a project. “It also lets the hospital define the project as a review of a single physician or a group, specify the specialty or sub-specialty, and the number of reviewers to evaluate the cases. Special instructions can be submitted, such as which questions reviewers should consider (standard questions are provided and users can submit custom questions as well), and then the user completes the submittal by uploading the appropriate medical record documents.

Case submittals are routed to the appropriate peer specialists (the company employs more than 400 board-certified doctors, in every major specialty), who conduct their reviews in PeerPoint as well. Reports are delivered back to the client through PeerPoint and downloaded.  The determinations can then easily be copied into a hospital’s own quality management software or databases.

PeerPoint offers top-level security, with features such as system redundancy and fast failover and data and application storage in a SAS70-approved data center. In addition, communication between AllMed and a hospital takes place within PeerPoint, thus preserving security and eliminating communication with separate email systems, which can be less efficient.
